The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, intends to award a firm fixed contract to perform Beach Nourishment of Oakwood Beach, Elsinboro Township, Salem County, New Jersey.
The contractor will conduct pre-placement condition surveys and pump/place approximately 24,000 CY of sand from a borrow area in the Delaware River (Reedy Island Range), which is up to 5 miles south of the sand placement area, a 9,500 foot stretch of shoreline known as Oakwood Beach in Elsinboro Township, Salem County, New Jersey. The sand will be placed on the beach in an engineered template with specific dimensions. The goal is to restore the design beach to 50 feet wide at Elevation +6.0 feet NAVD88. Three (3) quantity options (5,000 CY, 10,000 CY and 15,000 CY) will be included to place more sand depending on bid prices received and sand need. Sand must come from the offshore borrow area. Trucking in sand will not be permitted under this contract. Contractor must use screening devices on both the dredge intake in the borrow area and the pipe discharge on the beach to prevent munitions and explosives of concern (MEC) from making it on to the beach.
